Basic Combat Lifesaver 2

Building on Your Trauma Care Skills

Asymmetric Solutions’ Basic Combat Lifesaver 2 (BCLS 2) course is the next step in mastering life-saving techniques for both military and civilian environments. Building upon the knowledge gained in Basic Combat Lifesaver 1 (BCLS 1), this course further develops the skills necessary to manage trauma situations in increasingly complex and high-stress environments. Designed for both military and civilian first responders, BCLS 2 enhances your ability to assess, manage, and treat injuries in combat and tactical scenarios, ultimately improving your preparedness for real-world emergency situations.

Course Overview

In this 8-hour course, you’ll take your trauma care skills to the next level, moving from classroom learning to scenario-based field applications. The course teaches trauma care across three phases of care: Care Under Fire, Tactical Field Care, and Tactical Evacuation Care. The course is practical and hands-on, allowing participants to integrate learned techniques while operating in stressful, real-world scenarios.

Key Course Components

Scenario-Based Application

  • Simulated Trauma Scenarios: Focus on applying trauma care in high-stress, real-world environments, such as an active shooter or battlefield situation.
  • Role of First Responder: Students will take the role of a first responder, practicing how to assess and treat injuries without initial external medical support.
  • Moulage and Simulated Injuries: The use of moulage (simulated injuries), and role players with simulated casualties will help students practice responding to injuries in a realistic manner.

Advanced Trauma Care Techniques

  • Trauma Triage and Prioritization: Learn to assess and prioritize care for multiple casualties, using a methodical approach to maximize the chances of survival.
  • Penetrating Chest Trauma Management: Build on BCLS 1 skills for managing chest wounds and trauma through advanced techniques like needle decompression.
  • Tourniquet and Bleeding Control: Master bleeding control techniques, including effective tourniquet application and improvisation for severe extremity hemorrhage.

Tactical Considerations

  • Stress Management and Decision Making: Gain skills for coping with high-stress situations and making decisions quickly under pressure.
  • Environmental Stressors: Train with distractions such as smoke, noise, and movement to simulate real-life conditions.
  • Handling Casualties in Varying Environments: Experience different environmental conditions (e.g., urban, field, and confined spaces) to improve decision-making and adaptability.

Focus on Real-World Application

  • Interactive Training with Realistic Conditions: The second day of the course is dedicated to interactive, hands-on training that applies your skills to real-world scenarios.
  • Simulated Casualties and Environmental Stress: Experience how your body reacts under stress through simulated casualties, distractions, and environmental conditions like smoke and noise.

What You Will Learn

  • Proper Triage and Care Under Fire: How to assess the wounded and provide initial care in combat situations.
  • Advanced Trauma Management: Deepen your understanding of trauma and care for head, chest, and abdominal injuries.
  • Situational Awareness and Decision Making: Practice reacting effectively to injuries while dealing with high-stress situations.
